Script:

Once upon a time, there have been 3 brothers, triplets, named Tom, Dick, and Harry Class. They were raised in the same residence, with the same parents, had the very same IQ, very same capabilities and identical possibilities. Each and every was married and had two young children. They were all carpenters generating $25 per hour.

Although they had been very equivalent in all these respects, they had diverse priorities.

For illustration, Tom, chose to operate 20 hours per week, although his brother, Dick worked 40 hours and Harry 60.

It ought to also be noted that Harry’s wife worked full time as an workplace manager for a salary of $50,000. Dick’s wife sold real estate component time ten hours a week and created $25,000 per yr. Tom’s wife did not operate.

Tom and Dick invested all of their family earnings. Because they paid into Social Security they figured, they did not need to have to save for retirement. Harry and his wife, on the other hand, had, above numerous years, place away funds each and every month and invested it in stocks and bonds.

Here’s how it worked out: Tom created $25,000 a 12 months, Dick and his wife made $75,000 and Harry and his wife, $150,000.

When a new housing development opened up in their local community, the brothers determined to purchase equally-priced houses on the very same private street.

One particular day the brothers decided to pool their funds for the objective of bettering their street. Concerned about crime and security, and wanting a a lot more eye-catching setting for their homes, the 3 families decided to install a security gate at the street’s entrance repave the street’s surface and increase the lighting and landscaping. The work was done for a complete cost of $thirty,000.

Harry assumed they would divide the bill three techniques, every brother paying out $10,000. But Tom and Dick objected. “Why ought to we shell out the very same as you?” they said. “You make a lot a lot more cash than we do.” Harry was puzzled. “What does that have to do with anything at all?” he asked. “My family makes far more cash due to the fact my wife and I function prolonged hrs, and since we have saved some of the income we’ve earned to make extra income from investments. Why should we be penalized for that?”

“Harry, you can function and save all you like” Tom countered. “But my wife and I want to get pleasure from ourselves now, not 25 years from now.”

“Fine, Tom. Do what you want. It really is a cost-free country. But why need to I have to pay out for that?

“I cannot think your becoming so… unbrotherly,” Tom argued. “You have a good deal of income and I do not. I considered you’d be much more generous.”

At this point, Dick, the peacemaker in the loved ones, entered the conversation. “I’ve got an idea,” Dick explained. “Our combined earnings is $250,000, and $thirty,000 is twelve percent of that sum. Why will not we each spend that percentage of our revenue? Underneath that formula, Tom would pay out $3,000, I would shell out $9,000, and Harry would spend $18,000.”

“I have a significantly far better concept,” stated Tom. “And one particular that’s fairer than what you are proposing.”

Other aviarists, how-ever, have a various tale to tell concerning the Red-facedLove-bird, a single in particular insinuating that he has evenbred it in his bird-area, which I, in common with Dr. Eussand Mr. Wiener, am reluctantly compelled to doubt. The female can be readUy distinguished from the male Eed-face, not by the extent or intensity of colour of her rubicundmask, which some writers inform us is the differentiating mark

  1. The assumption that the richest 10% of Americans are richer because they worked longer hours, saved more money for retirement, or because both parents worked jobs is simply false. Take a look at this book for evidence that the greatest predictor of wealth is not hard work or long hours, but having rich parents: https://smile.amazon.com/Meritocracy-Myth-Stephen-J-McNamee/dp/1442219823/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1513018994&sr=8-1&keywords=myth+meritocracy

PragerU is not a University, which makes calling it "PragerU" fraud in that they are implying they are an unbiased university rather than right-wing propaganda.

  2. you always speak like all the people was just employee
yes for this tale it’s unfair to pay taxes like you show’d up but what do you say about someone who are making 1 000 000 dollar a year should he also pay just 500 dollar

  3. I understand there has to be some type of taxes going to the feds but some people think that the federal government has to collect income tax from the people which is not true no matter how much a person makes. The federal government didn’t start with income tax until prohibition the created the income tax to replace the money they would lose since there would be no more alcohol tax. Really the way it should be is we pay our local and state tax and the states pay the federal government since we are supposed to be a union of states. All i know is at the end of the day right now i basically work one week just to pay taxes its almost a quarter of my wages goes to taxes and i dont get most of it back so i hope somebody changes taxes for all of us no matter how much make.

  4. It is amazing by the comments how many people are more than happy to take the energy and resources of others for themselves. The only thing that exceeds thier lack of virtue is the long list of excuses of why they are justified in steeling.

  5. They tried the Progressive tax In Venezuela and it did not work under the guise of blame the rich.
It failed miserably just like every where else it has been implemented.
Eventually only the ruling class has money while everyone else is in A destitute state of economics.
Who can expect communal living to work as everyone will share in the same amount of prosperity when
only A much smaller % of people do most of the work?

  6. A more accurate analogy is the security fence and improvements are for the rich brothers home only and the rich brother makes the rule that each pay a fee of $10,000. That is the system the Republicans support and scream about how unfair any other system is.

  7. The brothers chose to make improvements to their private neighborhood. I don’t think we get as much of a say in how our taxes are spent.

  8. The opposition to the progressive income tax is a philosophical one from Conservatives but it is a specious argument at best.

  9. Dick’s idea was pretty fair considering they were brothers. But then again…..he is a dick. And hairy is greedy…..and tom is lazy…..

    Humans suck

  10. Nice but wayyy over simplified and missed how they GOT those jobs in the first place, since it was ALL even (meaning they "easily" chose those outcomes) – no victim baiting, but we know some other truths missing from that story

  11. Only difference between this video and today’s reality is that Harry presumptively makes more money by virtue of being a white male and not from more work.

  12. I mean this is so much BS…. watched 2 videos and is so ridiculous, is that what old conservative republicans are trying to do now to get the attention of young people since their party of old hacks is dying… with silly animations and young paid commentators… this video makes no sense.. one how is the poor brother be able to afford a home in the same neighborhood as the rich brother or the other way around … why do all conservatives think that the poor is taking advantage of the rich… so stupid!!!

  13. Over simplified metaphors for something as intricate and convoluted as the tax system for an entire country does nothing but degrade your argument. I even agree with the lesson they’re trying to teach here but when you take such an openly offensive stance to liberal politics and you want to make an argument, stick to facts and examples that apply to the real problem. If this Youtube series is trying to reach younger audiences (I’m assuming at this point) you may want to see where we’re getting our information from and model your videos after those. We won’t openly take your opinions and metaphors. If you can cite evidence and provide factual reporting, we’ll be a lot more inclined to listen. I’ve been watching these videos all night and I like a lot of them, but this one is a glaring misrepresentation of the argument.

  14. The solution is for Harry to move away from his brothers so they would then have to pay all the improvements. Corporations and people do that now – moving to a country with more favorable tax rates, thereby reducing "revenue" (taxes) in the US. The only fair tax is one that is the same percentage for everyone. The so-called "rich" still pay the bulk of taxes, but not very disproportionately as it is now. If you have no skin in the game, you should have no say in the game.

  15. All you cry baby libtards that disliked this video are nothing more than a Tom who wants everything for free.
I did a quick scroll through the the comment to see what the negative arguments were and came across: “What about the Toms that work as much as Harry, but still don’t even make what Dick does?” Without going into detail, this is not an argument.
People like this are the people that think that working at McDonalds is a carrier path and never strive for anything more.
Pass the GED and go to college to get a degree in something that is needed in society. “But not everyone can afford college.” That is why there is a Pell Grant. If you are intelligent about your funds you can easily get a 2 year degree with that grant from a community college and have money left over to transfer to a 4 year school. When your grant runs out we even have subsidized student loans to finish up your degree and you can then get a real carrier.
If you are the idiot that got a degree in gender studies, thinking some how that is going to make money in society, you deserve to be poor.

  16. fun concept but society is not constructed of siblings with identical circumstances. Everyone has their own path, and some of them have it paved by rich fathers. More right-wing fake news

  17. Tom only makes $25,000 a year, so he couldn’t afford to buy a house for $200k let alone get married, but dick and harry still wanted all that stuff, so they elected a guy who gave it to them buy raising taxes on every thing. Now tom needs government assistance and dick and harry are complaining because there about to be on the street like tom.

  18. wow, this is one of your more bullshittyer propaganda vids. there a more holes in this theory then a strainer. what if dick had large med expenses? what if tom didn’t want the gate and the rest? This is oversimplification of a greater more complex problem. How to solve it? Step one: Prager, who funds you? Nevermind, thanks google. THE FREAKING WILKS BROTHERS. Google those fanatic jackasses. hint: they are not carpenters.

  19. The difference is: for someone with $10K, 5% ($500) means a lot more than 10% of $100K. And a millionaire will feel the lack of 20% less than either of them, as will billionaire regarding even 50%. It may not be equal, or seem fair, but there is a rationale based on how much "pinch" you feel when cutting the check.
The proper curve, though, is plenty to debate about.

  20. This assumes a theoretically perfect supported flat-tax, where one hard-working person out-earns others through sacrifice, good decision-making, etc. But we all know the truth about that.

  21. This is video, is such BS, its designed for stupid people, trying to explain why rich people get all the breaks when it come to taxes.
