It could be argued that hypnosis has existed as portion of human culture since before civilization, in the kind of trance states induced via shamanic practices such as drumming, dance and ritual. For our purposes right here, even though, we will consider hypnosis in the modern civilized globe to have begun with Franz Anton Mesmer, an Austrian who lived from 1733-1815.

Mesmer induced a hypnotic state in his subjects by means of the use of what he termed “animal magnetism”, which was his thought that when he passed his hands in front of the person, some sort of energy was transmitted from him to the other particular person, resulting in trance and also in healing of physical ailments. Our word “mesmerize,” which implies essentially the same point as “hypnotize,” comes from his name.

Mesmer believed that there was a magnetic force or “fluid” which permeated everything, and which could lead to physical healing. At first he utilized magnets on his subjects, but later concluded that he could get the exact same final results by merely passing his hands in front of the person’s body. So, interestingly, what later evolved into hypnosis initially began out as a kind of semi-occult healing strategy.

Next came Scotsman James Braid [1795-1860], a physician and surgeon who coined the term “hypnotism,” which has been shortened from his original “neuro-hypnotism” or “nervous sleep,” by which he meant that the nervous system was put to sleep. Braid is widely thought of as the initial hypnotherapist and the Father of Hypnotism. Braid 1st observed the phenomenon when he encountered a French mesmerist — one of Mesmer’s students — Charles Lafontaine, in 1841. By studying Lafontaine’s subjects, Braid concluded that he had found the physical/mental method underlying the hypnotic state, and was amongst the 1st to write about the close interaction in between thoughts and body.

Braid had a lot of work to do to convince men and women that hypnosis was a genuine and useful tool, as opposed to a load of pseudo-occult nonsense, which was what several people believed in the wake of Mesmer’s “animal magnetism” and “magnetic fluid” claims.

These days hypnosis is an established therapeutic tool, extensively used for almost everything from addiction and weight loss to improving self-self-assurance, resolving neurotic troubles, and peak overall performance for pro athletes and performers.

  1. This building was a barracks, not the town hall until 1999. I was built in the 1850s so any ‘satanic’ embellishments must have been added later on.

  2. I believe it I mean the nazis were into so really dark stuff I wanna post a story but I can’t find the information it was about man trying to dig into a ww2 ss bunker and receiving countless death threats anonymous people telling something be sealed inside and not to open it or world will end or something along those line

  3. This would make one hell of a good scary movie. It wouldn’t surprise me if any or all of it is true. Good video dude keep up the excellent work

  4. Why didn’t they simply pump the basement out ?
In any case it can’t be good for a building to have its lower levels flooded.
I can’t see the army getting navy divers to look into a building.

  5. Artwork is bloody amazing in this chapter. And that’s two stories in a row I’ve never heard before, this channel just keeps getting better!

  6. If this is true or partially true, I wander have any remote viewers or crime detective psychics visited this place and what was their observation during their visit?

I would assume a lot of service people stationed @ CNR who committed suicide may have been sensitives -they probably saw and felt too much of this place.

  7. Oh yeah, Lt. Gen Brian Horrocks wasn’t the commander of the 84th Infantry Division, he was the commander of British XXX corps, aka the British tank force during Operation Market Garden.

  8. Wow, I’m german and I’ve never even heard of this story. That’s a concept for a horror game right there.

  14. Great story and well presented as always. Google didn’t turn up much about this place and I could not find any mention of flooded basements or concrete blocking the access to any basement if it exists. Really want to learn more about this place and if anyone has any additional info please let me know.

  15. A good story but the Nazis weren’t into Satanism. They were creating their own religion based on their (mis)interpretation of German/"Aryan" history. Evil for sure, just not that particular stripe of it.

  16. This was creepy! Imagining being underwater and seeings that should have been dead long ago still moving about. Then panic sets in and having the odd sensation of moving slower than what you’re actually going. Creepy stuff. Love it!

  17. Just a single correction: the pronunciation of Rathaus should be more like Raathaus. This sounded like Rathouse 🙂 However, I enjoyed the video, thanks for doing it!
