Hagiography
Hagiography, from the Greek ağios (ἅγιος, “holy” or “saint”) and graphēin (γράφειν, “to write”), refers to the biographies of saints and ecclesiastical leaders. The phrase hagiology, the research of hagiography, is also existing in English, though less frequent.

Christian hagiographies concentrate on the lives, and notably the miracles of guys and girls canonized by the Roman Catholic church, the Anglican Communion, the Eastern Orthodox Church, the Oriental Orthodox churches, and the Church of the East. Other religions such as Buddhism, Islam and Sikhism also develop and keep hagiographical texts (such as the Sikh Janamsakhis) regarding saints, gurus and other people believed to be imbued with sacred power.

The phrase “hagiography” has also been used as a pejorative reference to the operates of biographers and historians perceived to be uncritical or “reverential” to their subject, and is arguably the much more common utilization in a non-professional context. Nevertheless, hagiographic operates, notably these of the Middle Ages, can typically incorporate a worthwhile record of institutional and nearby background, and evidence of popular cults, customs, and traditions.

Considering that time immemorial there have been winter stories. Even ahead of the original Christmas story the winter time has been a time for tales of heart warming sentiment, magic and unbounded imagination.

No doubt the quick winter days and lengthy nights for civilisations distant from the equator were conducive to storytelling in days of outdated. With no light but that of the fire and with weather as well extreme for outdoor pursuits there would be small else to entertain.

These winter stories (the ones that final anyway) usually have in frequent the organic movement of mans thoughts toward greater things. Courage, chivalry, adore and self sacrifice. Awakening a sense of larger and much better factors. In short the winter tales of outdated – and those of far more recent occasions – are visionary. A lot more just lately of program the fictional character (is not he?) Santa Clause has taken centre stage in the realm of Christmas stories. And of program the story telling media has turn out to be a lot more complicated – cinema, television, DVD, streaming video.

Nonetheless every productive Christmas story adheres to the unique formula. Feel of classic movies like Vacation Inn or much more latest motion pictures like the Santa Clause. Usually there is a hope of anything better and the overcoming of obstacles by selfless means to attain it. And it turns out that this way is not a chore but is the normal inclination of man. The only way to get lasting fulfillment and that warm snugly feeling in our hearts.

So as you watch all the fantastic Christmas motion pictures this yr search out for the ancient formula. Seem for the advice in the direction of the higher factors. 2. Mr Sohaidkhd1, Can you please advice which religion was Prophet Mohamad before he introduced islam? He wasn’t muslim for sure. The other thing is Quran is a 70-80% similar to Bible, does it mean its an extension? The reason is coz 60-70% talk sense and about equality…but there are basic differences and will always be there…and btw in islam can a muslim girl marry a non muslim? and what about the other way around?

  5. …No one can become muslim with sword if anyone want to embrace he or she will embrace the religion which teach peace & love towards oneness of God {Tauheed} Thats what Nanak Sahab Taught evryone ….remeber his word when he came out of the pond Na Koi Muslim na koi Hindu….which means all are equal……Bhai just use ur eternal soul & think abt it That Nanak Sahab,Muhhamad S.A.W.S & Isa Masih & several others taught same that Allah ki Nazar mei sab barabar hain…There is One God who serves

  6. please stop killing, not worth it, God sakes , please awake up, and live happy, let other live happy, please thank you ,

  7. First thing musalim should learn to respect other religion.. every religion has its own beauty.. there history is very scary & in future they may put world in danger..

  8. Why is it the Sons of Abraham feel such a need to disparage the spirituality of others rather than respect it? When approaching a muslim always remember wild dogs seldom bite, but some do. The Qu’ran is often contradictory, vague and open to interpretation. Ink did not touch paper until 651CE 29 years after Mohammed’s death. The religion of peace has also actively practiced the buying and selling of slaves for 1300 of it’s 1400 year existence only ending under colonial rule.

  10. There is so much power and soul in guru’s shabad that I would pray to waheguru to make me a sikh again and again,,,,,just beautiful

  11. u seem to be judging islam by the actions of afghans and pakistanis….what they did had more to do with culture than islam like i read about a muslim woman who refused to drink water from the same cup with which a christian woman drank water….now islam had nothing to do with that but culture. there is no beheading today right? then how come islam is the fastest growing religion in the world?

  12. Sikhism is just an extension of Hinduism. Siks are fine to give their daughters to hindus. Its very common to my knowledge

  13. If one still thinks that Guru Nanak Sahib Ji was a Muslim, then would you accept such pretenders as Muslims who conceal their faith? Guru Sahib never stated that he was a Muslim, instead he did the opposite.

“I am not a Hindu, nor am I a Muslim. My body and breath of life belong to Allah – to Raam – the God of both. ||4||”
    (Ang 1136).

Hope this clears ur misunderstanding, if not I am happy to provide more answers…
    May Waheguru Bless U

  14. I did not disrespected the religion. Matter fact it you who are being more disrespectful comparing Muslims to wild dogs. Any religious book is usually open to interpretation depending who is reading it and what part you is being read under what given circumstances. I suggest sit down with a Muslim scholar and clear what part of Qur’an are not comprehending and are unfamiliar with. Giving a negative critique while not being neutral is easy thing to do and its a sign of pure ignorance.

  15. guru sahib infiltrated the city of mecca? sounds like a criminal to me….after all if someone infiltrates ur home then u call him a criminal and call police. i think guru nanak was a muslim but i respect ur view aswell though i dont agree. btw we muslims dont have to go to mecca to serve the one lord. we serve him all the time no matter where we are and also pray to him 5 times a day no matter where we are.

  16. Muslims go 2 Mecca 2 pay their homage and worship God, but this was not d purpose of the Guru 2 go there. Guru Sahib says:
"I do not make pilgrimages to Mecca, nor do I worship at Hindu sacred shrines. I serve the One Lord, and not any other. ||2|| I do not perform Hindu worship services, nor do I offer the Muslim prayers. I have taken the One Formless Lord into my heart; I humbly worship Him there. ||3||”
    (Ang 1136)
As the above, I hope things r making sense 2 u, but I will provide more below:

  17. ohhh dear!!! hindu warriors!!! lol !! ya we are real scared of hindu warriors. i m shaking with fear. think before u talk.

  18. And I have a lot of questions, which I want to get clarity on Islam. Do you mind clarifying on this forum? First and foremost, what are your views on other religions?

  19. Sorry, it been a while, i finally found the time to respond back to you. Prophet Mohammad was here to give the message of Islam. Islam is a religion that has been around since Adam and Eve set foot on this earth. Allah sent many prophets over time to hand out the same message. Meaning of Islam is to submit to the will of god. TO further clarify you may want to look how Torah, Zubur, Bible and Qur’an came into existence. Muslims and Jews strictly believe in monotheism.

  20. Actually many in Islam consider the Qu’ran NOT subject to interpretation unless interpretted by their culture and their holyman. Not taking a negative critique is also not a sign of neutrality. And no I do not like christians anymore than islamics. Hence why I referred to you as a son of Abraham. I respect Sikhs as they seldom fall into the "crimes for God" pattern. How could I characterize a entire culture because a few would kill over a cartoon of their profit?

  21. Ur ignorance for history and specially sikh is well explained above. Also, this is common thing for muslims to say that Guru Nanak is a Muslim, its like when they can’t find a single fault they call them a muslim so I am not surprised.Guru Nanak said, Na Hum Hindu Na Hum Musalman ( I am not a hindu and not a muslim) but I guess you won’t even accept that coz my friend u r blind folded and I won’t even argue with it as there are billions like u and they only suffer ..but best of luck

  23. i hate it when people say "forced" to leave religion. u can never force anyone to leave his/her religion cause religion is not anything material that someone can force u to leave. religion is not a country or ur home that someone can force u to leave. religion is knowledge and knowledge is the only thing that nobody can force u to accept or deny. which part of this dont u people understand?

  24. Sir, well this is the same case with Hinduism ( A lot older than Islam) where its told to believe in one god, unfortunately ppl over the years have twisted its meaning. Believing in one god doesn’t necessarily means u r a Muslim. Eg, Sikhism, we believe in one god but guru nanak said " Na Hum Hindu, Na Hum Musalman" which means " Neither I am a Hindu, nor am I a Muslim"

  26. no i dont think so but we could have stopped shikhism at its birth if we wanted to but we didnt…i bet guru nanak would have have been killed in europe at that time if he went around preachin different religion other than christianity and shikhism is no threat to us. we fight full might of nato in afghanistan and russia in chechniya. shiks wanting to fight muslims wont create any new pressure on us but why should we fight again?

  27. If Guru Sahib were sleeping inside or nearby the Kaa’ba (which is not possible when millions visit it), there wud not have been d account dat we read today. There is no mention anywhere that he observed ihram, did twaf, ran btw Safwa & Marwa or sacrificed an animal. 4 pilgrimage all these rituals r absolutely essential. As 4 saying Namaz, there is no evidence dat he followed an Imam or uttered Quranic verses anywhr. Furthermore, Guru Sahib no where wrote La Allah Illilah Mohammed Rasul Allah.

  28. Muslims believe that God is in the west and only likes Muslims. Guru Sahib visited Mecca to clear their doubts and to show them the right path. He went to preach oneness of God who does not reside only in the west. Guru Sahib said there are infinite heavens, hells and solar systems. There is no end to God or His creation.

  29. india is not islamic because muslims dont believe in forced conversion. the quran says "there is no compulsion in religion". those who becomes muslims does so by their own choice. btw what does empires have to do with islam?

  30. Yes this is what I am doing. I was born in a Sikh family but never followed it or learned it in my early life. I grew up and when I was 24/25 started to get more understanding of Sikhism and it completely changed my outlook. U don’t need religion to be moral, I accept that but then you need a guide to make sure you do the moral thing ans this is what I learned from Sikhi. Now do u want to clarify anything that don’t make sense to u about Sikhism, if so please answer and I will try to clear it…

  31. Nanak Ji is recorded 2 have visited Mecca not d Kaa’ba. One thing clear frm d historical evidence is that he visited Mecca wit his companion, Baba Mardana Ji, who was from a Muslim background. They stayed somewhere probably in a nearby village or town. Pilgrims do not stay in the Kaa’ba. They stay outside the holy shrine area in villages, towns or tents. It is also clear from the evidence dat Guru Sahib is recorded as having slept with his feet ‘towards’ the Kaa’ba.
